Presented by the Scoville Library, Dr.David C. Barker, Director of the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies at American University, will deliver a post-mortem on the 2020 elections and a broader discussion of the state of American politics. He will address questions such as why are we so divided and whether deliberative governance is still possible.
David C. Barker is Professor of Government and Director of the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies at American University. He was previously Director of the Institute for Social Research at California State University, Sacramento, and Associate Professor of Political Science and Religious Studies at University of Pittsburgh. He studies political psychology, voting behavior, political communication, and political governance. Professor Barker has authored/coauthored over 80 publications, including three books: Rushed to Judgment (2002), Representing Red and Blue (2012), and One Nation, Two Realities (2019). His current research program seeks to identify the sources of productive political negotiation and compromise, and the role that anti-intellectualism plays in American public life.
