A Celebration of Emancipation Day
Date: 06/19/2021
Time: 11:00 am-12:00 pm
The Norfolk Library in partnership with Norfolk UCC will celebrate Juneteenth, Emancipation Day, on Saturday, June 19, at 11:00 a.m. with a program of Dagomba music on library grounds. Performed by Serena and Enoch Agbeli, a native of Ghana, Dagomba music comes from the northern region of Ghana. The Agbelis will be using two drums, the lunga and gungon, known as talking drums because the rhythms recreate the language of the Dagomba people and have been a tool in passing down their history. Serena (formerly Serena Sinclair) will also play the gyil, an African xylophone from the Dagarti and Lobi people of Ghana. Please stop by!
