Iddi Saaka: West African Music and Dance Workshop for children

In West African societies dance is not just a pastime, it is the very fabric on which the cultural norms, values, and aspirations of the people are inscribed. Iddi Saaka, a native of Ghana, is a versatile and award-winning West African performance artist who specializes in Ghanaian dance and music forms as well as contemporary dance. Children (K-6) will be introduced to the general movement vocabulary of West Africa dance forms, learn at least one traditional West African dance, gain background knowledge of the dance, learn to interpret drum rhythms and patterns and respond with their appropriate movements.
