Artist Exhibition: Rebecca Bluebell Ward, “flos.wild”

Botanical paintings and drawings by Rebecca Bluebell Ward will be on display at the Norfolk Library for the month of October in an exhibition entitled “flos.wild.” Born in England, Rebecca grew up in a house built by a renowned Victorian artist, which instilled in her an appreciation for the work of Arts & Crafts artists and deeply influenced the way she sees the world. In her childhood, Europe was her playground. She studied Design at UCLA and traveled extensively, living in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and New York, where she met her designer husband, the late Bruce Hanke. They settled in Norfolk and raised two sons.

Plants and flowers have always been Rebecca’s muse, and the detailed tangle of twining leaves, twigs, branches and wildflowers form a myriad of delicate lines in her art. She remembers her experience growing up in the UK, where “the tall hedgerows were all tangled with wildflowers, vines, and blackberries – a foraging heaven.” [Main Street Magazine] Rebecca has shown her work at Montage Millerton, Furnace Gallery, NWCT Arts Council, Bristow Proffit Design, Hotchkiss School Rotunda, The Box in Sharon, and Maison Luxe.
