Art Exhibition: Photographs by Wendy Johnson Costa

Photographs by Wendy Johnson Costa will be on display at the Norfolk Library for the month of September in an exhibition entitled “Fragile Beauty.” A resident of Goshen, Wendy uses digital infrared photography to bring attention to nature’s beauty and its fragile state. She presents nature as a force to be revered, while at the same time hints at signs of nature falling prey to our accelerating climate crisis. Please join us for a reception for the artist on Sunday, September 6, graciously hosted by the Library Associates. Wendy will give an artist talk on Sunday, September 13, at 2:30 pm.

Wendy’s artwork has been exhibited at Five Points Gallery, Washington Art Association, Canton Gallery on the Green, PhotoPlace Gallery, Black Box Gallery, Indian Mountain School, and Oliver Wolcott Library. In August her work appeared in the Nor’Easter Exhibition at the New Britain Museum of American Art. Five of her photographs were selected for the Artist’s Collection of the Connecticut Office of the Arts and are displayed at the Litchfield Judicial Courthouse in Torrington, Connecticut.

The artist holds a BFA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and an MFA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She also pursued summer studies at Parsons School of Design in Paris and Tuscany; the Cleveland Institute of Art in Lacoste, France; Vermont Studio Center; and Maine College of Art and Design. Costa taught art, mostly in secondary schools in Litchfield County, for nearly forty years. She credits her students for keeping her young and constantly learning.
