More about the book: Passage is a philosophical piece of neuroscience-fiction that manages to ponder the Big Questions while maintaining an easy conversational style, numerous moments of both tears and laughter, and well-rounded characters. Dr. Joanna Lander is a psychologist specializing in near-death experiences. A brilliant young neurologist has come up with a way to manufacture the near-death experience using a psychoactive drug, and Lander starts repeatedly using this drug to attempt to confirm the reality of NDEs and the afterlife. Every time she takes the drug, she ends up wandering the decks of the Titanic, trying to stop the disaster.

The novel won the Locus Award for Best Novel in 2002, was shortlisted for the Nebula Award in 2001, and received nominations for the Hugo, Campbell, and Clarke Awards in 2002.
