The Monday Poets: A Reading
Please join us as we celebrate National Poetry Month with a reading by the Monday Poets of Litchfield County. The Monday Poets began about 35 years ago, when a group of women writers got together to air new work and share thoughtful feedback. While members have come and gone, Monday Poets continues in the same spirit. In 2020 the group published an anthology of their poems. For this program, Sandra Bishop Ebner, Cheryl Della Pelle, Joanne Hayhurst, Davyne Verstandig, and Norfolk’s own Susannah Lawrence Wood will be reading their poems.
Launched by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, National Poetry Month is a special occasion that celebrates poets’ and poetry’s integral role in our culture. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K–12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, families, and—of course—poets, marking poetry’s important place in our lives.
