Music Among Neighbors: The Mops

The Mops began as a folk-forward songwriting project between school orchestra friends Greg Hunter and Charlotte Hill (daughter of Norfolk’s Meg Hill) in the suburbs of New York City. Now joined by fiddle player Ellie MacPhee and drummer Danny Mendelson, The Mops enjoy sharing their intimate, thought-provoking, and often toe-tapping songs up and down the East Coast. The band’s discography includes an eponymous cassette (2016), a heartbreak LP (2019), a streak of biweekly Bandcamp singles (2020-2021), and a contemplative EP (2022). Their most recent record, “Honeycomb” was released on Blissed Out Records. It’s their most ambitious collection of songs to date, with odes to new love and apocalypse angst placed alongside reflections on loss and addiction.

The Mops  are excited to share their music in Norfolk, where Charlotte’s mom Meg lives in a converted one-room schoolhouse and teaches violin.
